Literature Text
When darkness rips away her joy
With claws that flay and deftly tear,
Her bones and sinew are laid bare
As lifeless as a tattered toy,
Her heartbeat gently pulses quick
Beneath that skin like porcelain,
Each slash breeds more adrenaline
As palms grow slick and breath constricts,
Her eyes see nothing but the pain,
Her very sanity is slain,
But as she clutches onto hope
And feels the fibres of her rope,
She knows that daylight’s face is near
Which means she will outlive the fear.
With claws that flay and deftly tear,
Her bones and sinew are laid bare
As lifeless as a tattered toy,
Her heartbeat gently pulses quick
Beneath that skin like porcelain,
Each slash breeds more adrenaline
As palms grow slick and breath constricts,
Her eyes see nothing but the pain,
Her very sanity is slain,
But as she clutches onto hope
And feels the fibres of her rope,
She knows that daylight’s face is near
Which means she will outlive the fear.
Literature
Wings of Hope
intuition bird, sing bright the dawn
as blooming secrets
fall soft on mosaic stones;
our gentle vines creep wild as wind,
a wandering metamorphosis:
winter caterpillar, spring cocoon,
summer wings twinged and falling into flowers
before reinventing destiny
harmony garden, keep parched and persevering;
this world will stop one day
to water the seeds
with why, and was, and maybe someday could be--
for now, nature watches quiet
as sun-dust butterflies
collect drifting souls like wishing stars
Literature
This is Irony
I count the passing of days in ashtray soldiers,
and stillness in the words of dead poets.
We write our secrets on the inside of our lungs
and hide truths on the inside of our stanzas,
because it’s acceptable to wear hatred on your arms,
but vulnerability is a mark of weakness.
I have choked down everything: pain and shame and arsenic tranquility,
to spew forth such paltry words and call it poetry.
A waltz away from thirty eight caliber oblivion
we press back, back
because death isn’t as romantic as we hoped,
and poison is quieter than a gunshot.
Literature
California
My father was San Francisco and my mother, the Pacific;
at five I was in love with nine-lane highways, the scent of
eucalyptus pressed between my fingers, yellow parchment
hills crumpled up under the eye of the sun. If I had a sunset
to myself I would curl up on a park bench like the hippies do,
and eavesdrop on the sea lions’ bedtime conversations.
Alcatraz never quite unbarred me and yet I have found
freedom in hills steep as my shoulders; I know that I am
beautiful even in the rain because I have kissed the smoke
of Berkeley and tasted her on my teeth. I was born to
dangle my legs over Golden Gate Bridge and of course,
of

Yes the subject matter isn't happy. I have PTSD. It is fucking hell. This is just a little peek into the world of chronic mental illness. Sorry it isn't very happy. Last Saturday was hard for me, but I outlived it. At the end of the day, that's all that matters.

This is a wonderful poem and you absolutely deserved your DD. Take things day by day. Tripe, I know, and I'm sorry to sound that way, but sometimes it is the only way to get through, and whatever works, no matter how small the victory may seem to others, is a victory.
Stay strong.
