Hello everyone and welcome back to Prose-ject, where the fun and fantastic stray into the odd and awkward. This month's challenge is called Mission Mimicry, and that's because it's about honouring others and being the best mimic.

Confused? I'll explain.

Every writer has their own unique voice, like a signature. This voice allows their readers to distinguish their work from those of other writers and to become fans of their work. Whether you are just starting out, or an accomplished author, your voice is your watermark. It defines and is defined by you and you alone.

Mission Mimicry 2017 is...

Mission Mimicry is an event designed to test and challenge this voice. Essentially, I want you to read the work of an author that you admire or enjoy, and write your own unique piece in a similar or identical style. This isn't about plagiarism or copying another, it is more about identifying the individual qualities that one can define as a person's 'voice' and analysing it. In a way, it is a lesson in literary transfiguration, and thus,  I'm dedicating this post to the most kickass transfigurator I know: Minerva McGonagall, and her badass awesome.

This will serve to:

1. Help you to understand some of the nitty gritty pieces of that particular writer's nuance
2. Highlight differences between your own voice and theirs while...
3. Allowing you to connect with and identify your voice with clarity and new understanding.

I know that this challenge will not appeal to everyone, and in fact many people may think I have lost my mind.

I have and that is beside the point... .

But Prose-ject is nothing if not a bit crazy, and it is entirely up to you whether you participate.

So for those who want to gather up new perspectives on theirs and other people's work, here is everything you need to know:

What Do I Have To Do?

:bulletred: Mission Mimicry will run from 12am GMT May 1st to 12am GMT June 1st, though later entries will be accepted.

:bulletorange: This is NOT a contest, there will be no prizes, only encouragement.

:bulletyellow: All entries will be collected in The Mission Mimicry folder. Please either submit them yourself or note us :).

:bulletgreen: Please disclose in your artist's comments the following:
        - Link to this journal
        - The author/artist you are mimicking

:bulletblue: We adhere to dA's guidelines of submissions. If you attack a fellow deviant in your piece, it will not be accepted.

Dot Bullet (Dark Blue) - F2U! Feel free to share this challenge around a bit to anyone you think would enjoy it :)

:bulletpurple: Kick ass and stay awesome!

it's funny you should put Minerva McGonagall in here as J.K.R. is by far my favorite writer. I can even say some of my style of writing already comes from reading Harry Potter. But to emulate her style more accurately is a daunting task indeed
