My Daddy

I used to play rugby,
Get covered in dirt,
Just so I could watch,
My Daddy kick the ball high.

I used to play tennis,
With the handle carved in,
Just so I could watch,
My Daddy smile at me.

I used to choose a book,
That was big and heavy and thick,
Just so I could have,
My Daddy with me longer.

I used to sing songs,
While I strummed my ukulele,
Just so I could be,
My Daddy’s little girl.

I used to cry many a night,
With so much anger and pain,
Just so I didn’t hate the man,
My Daddy had become.
